What is it?

Very simply, Mystic Spiral Arena is a group of pegasus racing stables. It is roughly based on WFS (WyndFang Stables), which was based on MFA (Majestic Flight Arena) which was based on Royal Wings. I in no way, shape, or form try to claim credit for the originality of the idea. The idea is not mine.

How do I join?

Playing this game is relatively simple. You simply e-mail me with the filled-out
application. You may include your own graphic, as long as it will fit the general trend of those on the page. This information will then be published on a stable webpage, which you can reference to keep track of the points earned and money won.

It should be noted that deletion of MSA e-mails (except those marked deletable) will result in your stable's removal, without warning. Two weeks without registering, or one month without meeting the play requirements will also result in removal of your stable.

After that, you can start to race your pegasi.

[ Edit: 3/12/04 ] We are no longer accepting casual stables. Races are now held once a month. If you are joining simply for the races, think again. Board or real time play is a requirement, not an option.

Races?

Terminology:

Race: What we run every month
Course: What's in an arena
Arena: The sub-heading the various courses are listed under

Pegasi can run once per race. Jockeys can run once per race.

Courses are divided by grade and/or skill level.

Race registration is 10 gp per pegasus entered, subtracted from your stable's account.

First place is 100 GPs, second is 75 GPs, and third is 50 GPs.

What do they look like?

Pegs come in a vast array of colors (and we're adding new colors as they're suggested. Have a color? Suggest it
here.) They have a variety of patterns as well, described below.

Patterns:

Striped ~ The legs are striped, a dorsal stripe is present, and the wingfeathers are banded (striped) as well.

Paint ~ The body is covered in splotches of fur in two different hues.

Appoloosa (blanket) ~ The body is one color, but the rump is a different shade with splotches of color the same as the main body.

Appaloosa (Spotted) ~ The body is one color with different colored spots covering it.

Palamino ~ a pale yellow to gold body with creme or white points

Dappled ~ The body one color with faint spots of a different color, primarily over the barrel and flank

Flea-bitten ~ solid colored body with flecks of another color(s) over entire body

Points ~ Pegasus with points (eartips, muzzle, legs to the knee/hock, mane/tail) a different color from the body.

Brindle ~ lighter body color with irregular dark striping

Roan ~ having the base color muted and lightened by admixture of white hairs

Markings:

Socks ~ The legs (below the knee/hock) are a differnt color than the rest of the body.
Stockings ~ The legs (to or beyond the knee/hock) are a different color from the body.

Snip ~ a splotch of diffent-colored fur on the muzzle, generally near the nostrils.
Stripe ~ A thin marking running down the face.
Blaze ~ A wider mark running down the face.
Baldface ~ the entire front of the face is colored differently than the body.
Star ~ A splotch of fur on the forehead, generally between the eyes.

Wingtips ~ the tips of the wings (primary feathers) are a different color.

Colors:

Black Red Gold Goldenrod Forest Navy Purple
Slate Maroon Orange Yellow Emerald Royal Plum
Grey Fuschia Pale Orange Chartreuse Light Green Blue grey Indigo
Silver Rose Peach Tan Teal Cerulean Burgundy
Creme Dusty Rose Copper Dun Aquamarine Dusky Blue Mauve
White Light Pink Bronze Pale Yellow Seafoam Pale Blue Lavendar
How can I get more?

You can acquire more either through claims races, by auctions, or by purchasing them. Foals are 50 gp, 0's are 100, 1's are 150, 2's are 200, and so on.

There will also be auctions and/or trade days throughout the seasons, to acquire more pegs, as well as hunts.

Since it's come up a few times, here is the list of grades vs age for claims, purchase, and Wild Hunt pegs:

Grade 0, 1 = Age 3
Grade 0, 1, 2 = Age 4
Grade 2, 3, 4 = Age 5
Grade 5, 6, 7 = Age 6

It should be noted that there is a limit of 60 adult raceable pegs per stable. In the event breeding leads to more than 60 pegasi including yearlings (but not newborns), a fourth barn will be required to accomodate the extras. Only 50 pegs will be allowed to race; the 60 cap allows for pregnant mares or injured pegasi.

Each barn can only comfortably contain 20 pegasi, so at 17, 37, and 57, you will need to request construction of a new barn, to accomodate any future pegasi you plan to acquire. If you have no plans to acquire and hold more than you can comfortably contain (as in, you are holding some for a near-future trade), temporary accomodations may be made.

Mandatory retirement age for pegasi is now at 20 years of age.

How do "Grades" work?

Grades are based on a combination of points and age. They will be classified, according to accumulated points.

A pegasus with 0-9 points will be classified as a Grade 0 pegasus. 10-19 points is a Grade 1; 20-29 points is a Grade 2; 30-39 is a Grade 3, and so on. Everything else will be reclassified as it reaches a new level. (i.e., a G 0 peg who earns 10 points will then be classified as a 1, not a 0).

Jockeys also accumulate points, and there is a system of bonuses that go along with that.

Breeding/Time conversion

A year (or a complete racing season) is approximately 3 OOC months, give or take a few weeks for auctions, trade days, etc. Pegasus gestation lasts one season. It is not required (but highly suggested) that pregnant mares not race after the first trimester. Those raced after the second (in the last ooc month) will lose their foals.

Stallions can be studded out, for whatever the stable owner deems worthy as a stud fee. To prevent system abuse, there will be limitations on breeding.

There is a chance of non-conception, to be determined with the roll of a die at the time of the breeding.

Only a pair who has won (1st place) in a qualifer twice or a championship once is eligible to be bred.

Only mares who are five years old or older may breed. Stallions may begin breeding at age 4. Points accumulated will be taken into consideration when the foal is born, so it could start with a number of points, depending on the points the parents have won.

Wild hunt pegs bred together will create a foal that carries the WH bonus. WH pegs bred to normal pegs have a 1d2 chance of passing on the bonus, determined during conception rolls; 1d2 will be rolled for each offspring.

Pegasi bear twins more often than not, though there are single births and triplets; this will be decided by the roll of the die.
